Pembrokeshire is a great location for birdwatching.

Those taking a winter break can enjoy watching wildfowl, waders and other waterbirds like Slavonian grebes, great northern divers and little egrets on the Cleddau, Nevern and Teifi rivers. Peregrines, merlins and hen harriers hunt widely across the county and large flocks of lapwings and golden plovers often tower over the landscape, flushed by these marauding raptors.

Pembrokeshire provides such a rich landscape for resident and visiting birds that it’s best to always have your binoculars with you.

There is something so magical about stepping onto a beach and realising you have it all to yourself. This is not a rare experience in January in Pembrokeshire. One of our favourite ways to wake up is to wrap up warm, take a flask of coffee to the beach, and watch the waves roll in

The weather in Pembrokeshire in January can change from hour to hour, and it is a beautiful thing to watch. After a few days, you’ll be tuned in to watching for fronts coming in over the sea. When a storm comes in it’s extra special. Grab a flask and a blanket, drive to a beach and cosy up!

Pembrokeshire is a beautiful place to visit all year around, here is our list of winter activities.

Winter Activities in Pembrokeshire

Birdwatching in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire is a great location for birdwatching.

Those taking a winter break can enjoy watching wildfowl, waders and other waterbirds like Slavonian grebes, great northern divers and little egrets on the Cleddau, Nevern and Teifi rivers. Peregrines, merlins and hen harriers hunt widely across the county and large flocks of lapwings and golden plovers often tower over the landscape, flushed by these marauding raptors.

Pembrokeshire provides such a rich landscape for resident and visiting birds that it’s best to always have your binoculars with you.

Pembrokeshire Safari Tours

Re-discover the real Pembrokeshire in our 4×4 Land Rover Defender which seats up to six people in style.
The tours will take you to some all the best sights Pembrokeshire has to offer as well as some ‘off the beaten track’ locations.
We use the legendary Land Rover Defender 110 equipped with six forward facing seats for added comfort and viewing height.

The vehicle holds a full Private Hire License from Pembrokeshire County Council and is checked regularly by them to ensure it is in full working order and meets all health and safety requirements.

EMPTY BEACHES

There is something so magical about stepping onto a beach and realising you have it all to yourself. This is not a rare experience in January in Pembrokeshire. One of our favourite ways to wake up is to wrap up warm, take a flask of coffee to the beach, and watch the waves roll in

The weather in Pembrokeshire in January can change from hour to hour, and it is a beautiful thing to watch. After a few days, you’ll be tuned in to watching for fronts coming in over the sea. When a storm comes in it’s extra special. Grab a flask and a blanket, drive to a beach and cosy up!

THE COAST PATH TO YOURSELF

In January, it’s possible to walk on the coast path for hours without seeing a single person! This adds to the peace that comes from a stomp along the path. whatever the season. The views are just as spectacular, and often the moody light and raging sea makes it that much more interesting.

A DOG’S PARADISE

Muddy walks, deserted beaches to run along and log fires to snooze in front of equal a dog’s heaven! There are no dog bans to navigate, and the quieter pubs and restaurants mean there’s plenty of room for your pooch to chill out while you do the same!

QUIET STREETS

The streets of the towns and villages of Pembrokeshire are peaceful in winter, allowing you to explore the streets with ease. An afternoon popping in and out of independent shops and cafes is a joy! With fewer cars on the road, experiencing other parts of the county, like taking a day trip to Tenby, is that much easier.
